Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
Transcranial magnetic stimulation or TMS represents a huge leap forwarded in the noninvasive treatment of behavioral health and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety as well as substance abuse and addiction disorders. Indeed, Destination Hope is one of the first facilities nationwide to widely employ this proven therapy in addition to our traditional behavioral health treatment protocols such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
TMS uses electromagnetic induction focused on particular areas of the brain to promote brain function and stimulate the brain to regenerate after serious substance abuse or trauma. The length and frequency of TMS treatment is individualized to the client’s particular situation. Depending on the affected part the brain, different settings can be selected for shallower or deeper stimulation of narrow or broad brain volumes.
TMS emits brief concentrated magnetic pulses in a very focused manner in similar fashion to Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI. These pulses stimulate the part of the brain determined to be responsible for the behavioral health issues from which the client is suffering. We can further enhance the benefits of TMS by applying it repetitively. A longer course of treatment typically yields longer-term results.
When performed on patients suffering behavioral health issues, such as depression or anxiety, even substance abuse, TMS can often be successful where drug or other therapy has failed. Indeed, TMS is especially useful for patients that require additional or adjunctive therapy to traditional methods. Whether administered in conjunction with or instead of medication, patients typically see and feel results almost immediately.
TMS is administered by our highly experienced and qualified physician who is assisted by a trained technician. Risks of TMS are minimal in patients that have been appropriately screened for the procedure. However, not all patients will be suitable for a course of TMS treatment.
Our TMS program represents a massive leap forward in behavioral health treatment as these proven techniques have shown efficacy in treating many of the common conditions from which our clients suffer. We look forward to introducing you or your love one to this service, which is now an integral part of our comprehensive treatment program.
