BioFeedback

BioFeedback for Behavioral Health Issues

Biofeedback is a sensory tool that helps our clients suffering from behavioral health conditions such as addiction and mental illness harness the power of their mind by increasing awareness of their bodies and gaining control over new aspects of their health.

During the biofeedback process, trained therapists and technicians monitor functions such as heartbeat, breathing rate, blood pressure, temperature and more through sensors that are attached to the body.

Screens are set up around a comfortable chair to allow clients to see their physical response to various stimuli including sight and sound. Eventually, they are able to understand what environmental factors trigger reactions. By understanding these behaviors, clients are better able to manage their emotions and reactions by consciously lowering their heart rate and decreasing their blood pressure.

Biofeedback processes have shown great promise in helping relieve stress, improve blood pressure and even relieve depression and anxiety-related chronic pain.

What are the Benefits of Biofeedback Therapy?

The biofeedback program at Destination Hope offers the client a number of benefits. Its primary goal is to help treat depression, anxiety and stress by minimizing racing thoughts and relaxing the mind and body.

Guided imagery is designed to address the guilt, fear, shame and trauma many people who face addiction or mental health issues deal with every day.

By addressing these negative emotions, we help the client overcome deeply rooted problems and begin to foster a state of greater tranquility. Clients are also taught certain techniques to manage their emotions and physical reactions to the environment through biofeedback therapy. All of these benefits lead to improved response to treatment as clients are more receptive to therapy and more responsive to what their therapist has to say.

Considerations and Risks of BioFeedback

Biofeedback is not a cure for disease, nor is it a silver bullet for addiction or mental health issues. Rather, we believe that biofeedback is one tool in the larger fight against behavioral health issues. By implementing this and other proven therapeutic protocols, we believe that the client leaves treatment with the tools to lead a life if sobriety and lower risk of relapse .

What is Biosound™ Therapy?

Biosound™ Therapy integrates biofeedback, music therapy, sound frequency, massage and guided imagery into one platform to soothe the client’s mind and guide them into a peaceful state. These therapies take place on the Biolounge, a vibrational lounger constructed of memory foam that is integrated with an audio and visual system. It is a highly intuitive, interactive piece of equipment that allows clients to lie back and relax throughout their therapy session.

How Does the Biolounge Work?

The Biolounge works by inducing relaxation and a deep meditative state through rhythmic beats and vibrations. It is able to read heart rhythm patterns, synchronize the body’s nervous system and develop mindfulness and awareness through positive affirmations. The program involves several challenge levels so that the client can ease into treatment and continue growing through higher intensity sessions. This helps them achieve a higher level of coherence and push their intellectual and physical boundaries.
