Trauma Resolution

Destination Hope | Trauma & Abuse Recovery

Trauma can affect people in a number of different ways. Typically, a traumatic experience creates a feeling of panic or stress, which can, in turn, sometimes cause individuals to abuse drugs and alcohol to cope. Once this cycle starts, the reliance on the substance is fueled and enhanced by its intake, making it increasingly difficult to break free. In order to recover from trauma and prevent substance abuse, the source of the trauma must be understood and confronted, allowing the individual to express their feelings toward this trauma while also receiving guidance on how to cope with it.

Trauma can be induced through various environmental circumstances. The most consistently observed cases result from abusive or violent relationships, disregard and neglect, and psychological or emotional strain. The need for addressing the source of trauma is crucial in preventing any further psychological and physical damage. When left unchecked, the stress of traumatic situations can further develop into a mental illness called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.

PTSD can prevent individuals from living their lives entirely, as fear and anxiety are heightened to extraordinary levels.  People who suffer from PTSD are often very paranoid and internalize many of their emotions while shutting out their surrounding environment. Severe cases of PTSD can lead to regular substance abuse, intense depression, and seclusion.

At Destination Hope, we treat our clients who face regular trauma with real sensitivity and care as part of our dual diagnosis program.  No problem is too large and no life should be precluded from its true potential.  If you are experiencing trauma, PTSD, or drug and alcohol addiction as a result of a traumatic incident, please Contact Us.  We will listen and we will help.
