Oftentimes a pre-existing mental health issue drives a person to substance abuse in the first place. Other times the substance abuse leads to mental illness and emotional issues. No matter how co-occurring disorders manifest themselves, they must be treated with specialized counseling.
The dual diagnosis program at Destination Hope focuses not only on the addiction to a particular substance, but also on the issues that surround the dependency. These issues often manifest as psychiatric problems like depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality issues, and anxiety.
TREATMENT FOR THE MOST EFFECTIVE RECOVERY POSSIBLE
It is imperative that when an addict enters treatment with co-occurring disorders, they receive treatment for both to ensure the most effective recovery possible. In order to do so, Destination Hope creates an individualized plan for each of our clients. The standard protocol for this plan includes:
- A preliminary psychiatric evaluation
- Individual counseling
- Family counseling
- Group counseling
- A comprehensive discharge plan
Two different treatments operating as one dual diagnosis program allows us to give greater attention and detail to each factor causing addiction.
