Support Your Loved Ones in Drug & Alcohol Rehab
Drug and alcohol addiction rarely affects just the addict. The reach of chemical dependency protrudes outward and makes an impact on family, friends, and other loved ones. The effects of drugs and alcohol can make addict’s behave irrationally and desperate, potentially causing harm to themselves or others. Often, we have received clients who have severed ties with their family for one of two reasons: Either the client has left the family as a result of feeling rejected, unwanted, or unloved, or the family has severed the ties with the addict as a result of stress, anger and anxiety over their substance abusing relative.
At Destination Hope, we firmly believe that just as a family can feel bruised and broken because one of their own is facing addiction, so they can be healed and strengthened too. It requires channeling the family resentment and anger to love and support – repurposing their emotions. As explained above, addiction rarely affects the addict alone – we believe that the recovery process should be no different. Our family therapy sessions often shed light on the origin that led to an addiction. When paired with a controlled, non-aggressive environment led by a counselor, the family and client begin to re-form the bonds that were damaged.
The recovery process is a very delicate one and is best handled with patience and encouragement – an open mind and heart. True sobriety is found in longevity and a recovering addict’s endurance can be strengthened through a supportive family and community of friends. If you know of someone who is very close to you that needs drug and alcohol rehab, call us now. We’re ready to hear your situation and provide help in any way we can.
